Few knew what RFID was 12 months ago. Today, we find that there are articles in Business Week, Wall Street Journal, Fortune, among others. Many view that the interest in this market can be attributed to one thing: Wal-Mart's requirements and commitment to the North Texas Mega-Pilot, with three of Wal-Mart's top suppliers working towards the retailer's requirement to tag pallets and cases by January 2005. This inflection point in the market launched by the Wal-Mart Commitment and assisted by the development of standards at the Auto-ID Center (now EPC Global), and the development of UHF RFID technology from companies like Alien Technology, is critically important for business innovation to take place in the supply chains.

At this Power Pub, come discuss with Mr. Frew the questions that are left open to explore, including:

  • How important are the evolution of standards to broader and deeper adoption?
  • Are there really business cases that support these solutions?
  • Are we too tied to the processes and methodologies of the past to envision the benefits of what EPC/RFID can bring?
