ABOUT IBM’s WEBSPHERE VOICE SERVER (announced in June 2000)

IBM WebSphere Voice Server with ViaVoice Technology allows delivery of voice applications based on industry standard VoiceXML, helping businesses leverage their investments in Web and call center technologies to deliver e-business solutions. VoiceXML complements today’s Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) to allow the delivery of voice applications for the mobile Internet. IBM is combining its world-wide experience in telephony and the Internet with its unique ViaVoice speech recognition technology, to provide more natural and easy-to-use, end-to-end solutions that deliver faster, more natural access to information from anywhere at anytime with any device. By 2003, 30 percent of the US workforce will use speech recognition on a daily basis. Cahners Instat predicts the market for voice technology will be worth over $30 billion by 2006 in the US alone. IBM is the only company that can offer an end-to-end platform for voice solutions from the desktop, embedded device and telephone to the enterprise and the Internet. Voice joins other key technologies like WebSphere and MQ Series, to complete the framework for business transformation in this new economy with millions of companies, communicating with billions of people and trillions of devices. IBM believes that to truly transform e-business, there are three key phases that a company must implement:

* Webify fundamental business processes to maximize assets and enter e-commerce.
* Grow and adapt the e-business to meet changing market requirements.
* Differentiate e-business practices to win the marketplace.
