PUB
TALK: THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 2002
"Don't Miss The Women! You Will Miss The Future!"
By Ms. Gloria Montano, Director, Virtual Development
Center (VDC), Institute for Women and Technology (IWT)
Open to the Public. 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The Pub talk begins at 6:00
p.m.
There are too
few women creating future technology. Those who do, do not work
in an environment where other women are viewed as interesting. Imagine
if all the technology defining the future, and all the technology
that men use were imagined and created by women. Something would
be missing...half of the world's brilliance and ideas! Today, women's
brilliance is missing and half of the technology that could be invented
is lost. At this Pub Talk, learn how at the Institute for Women
and Technology, they have collected more than 1,200 ideas from women
and how they are finding ways to change systems so that women become
jazzed to contribute to the development of ideas.
ABOUT
GLORIA MONTANO

Center (VDC) at the Institute for Women and Technology. Ms. Montano

ABOUT
THE INSTITUTE FOR WOMEN AND TECHNOLOGY
The Institute for Women and Technology (http://www.iwt.org/)
is changing the world for women and technology. Its mission - to
increase the impact of women on all aspects of technology; to increase
the positive impact of technology on the lives of the world's women;
and to help communities, industry, education, and government benefit
from these increases - addresses technology's increasing impact
on our economic, political, social, and personal lives.
The
Institute for Women and Technology:
Increases the world's understanding that women's perspective
and brilliance are critical for the expansion of positive technology.
Changes the systems, not the women. Education and workplaces
need to change in ways that engage and build on women's ideas and
vision.
Increases the visibility of women's impact on technology
to each other and beyond, thus increasing understanding of their
own and other women's brilliance.
Draws technical and non-technical women into technology by
making the connection between technology creation and social impact.
Provides support for women inside of technology including
networking, access to relationships and information, mentoring,
and problem solving.
The Institute
offers four different programs. The Virtual Development Center is
an industry, academic, and community partnership, and research program
aimed at finding new and innovative ways to involve women and girls
in all aspects of technology. The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women
in Computing Conference is the premier event for technical women
in computing. The Systers Online Community for Women in Computing
is the first and largest such online community engaging and supporting
nearly 3,000 women in 38 countries. The Senior Women's Summit brings
together an elite set of women who have become leaders in their
fields, and includes representatives from academia, government,
and industry.

PANEL DISCUSSION: TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2002
"The Future of Biotech: Managing Clinical Trials in the Internet
Economy"
Registration
and Networking: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Panel: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Open to the Public. $20 fee (No fee to Center Sponsors).
Pre-registration highly recommended due to limited seating.
PROGRAM
The rapid pace of new drug development, the plethora
of biotech companies in need of getting drugs to the market, and
the advent of the Internet and Web are having a strong impact on
the structuring and management of clinical trials -- the expensive
and time-consuming process of testing medical drugs that occur in
three overlapping phases which last several years each. The right
strategic business decisions and compliance with the U.S. Food and
Drug Administration's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER)
are key to the success of clinical trials, inevitably getting new
drugs to the U.S. market.
At this Panel,
come hear experts in the biotech industry put their stake on the
ground on the following questions:
Will
the processing and management of clinical trials be 'Web-ified'?
If so, in what time horizon?
What mediating technology and non-technology factors are
needed for clinical trials to incorporate Internet- and Web-based
solutions?
What challenges are biotech companies facing in structuring
and managing clinical trials? For instance, in the areas of patient
acquisition and case management; data acquisition, storage, retrieval,
and mining; and data analysis?
What solutions, including Internet- and Web-based ones, exist
to meet these challenges?
What critical technology solutions are still needed?
Come hear about
these developments during the first half of this two-hour Panel.
During the second hour, audience participants will have the opportunity
to engage in a lively, interactive discussion with the panelists.

EXECUTIVE SEMINAR: TUESDAY,
JUNE 25, 2002
"Winning with Limited Marketing Resources: Maximizing the True
Cost of Marketing (TCM)"
By Mr. Ross Halleck, President, Halleck &
By Mr. Ian Cheeseman, President, LVA Corporate Communications
4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Reception follows. Invitation-only. Limit: 40 participants.
This invitation-only
Executive Seminar, in conjunction with Halleck (one of the Center's
Knowledge Network Partners) and LVA Corporate Communications, focuses
on providing marketing executives with the appropriate tools to
be able to:
Calculate
total cost of marketing (TCM).
Reduce TCM cost.
Increase the strength of marketing efforts for competitive
advantage.
Build stronger customer relationships through a consistent
and persistent brand experience.
Participants
will also learn:
The latest market development -- Integrated
Marketing Groups (IMG) -- and why it is important.
How to continue to get the best from your limited marketing
staff and resources.
Marketing budgets
are being slashed, internal marketing professionals are being eliminated
to reduce head count, and the competition is getting fiercer. Traditional
advertising agencies have a limited focus with a bias toward specific
media, yet, freelance and independent talent requires tighter management
by internal resources that do not exist. Marketing in this environment
requires an understanding of TCM to be successful. In fact, the
only survivors will be those who affect the greatest effectiveness
and efficiency in communicating their value proposition.
During the previous
boom economy, trend was to hire the best of breed in all disciplines
of marketing services. The return on those investments, especially
in today's economy, cast doubt on the wisdom of this course. With
the plethora of media choices on the part of companies, not to speak
of the overwhelming selection of brands available in every category
in B2C and B2B, selecting multiple agencies creates tremendous managerial
challenges, not to mention tremendous waste and overlap.
An IMG can provide
a company with a non-biased approach to the right mix of media for
greatest impact and return for its marketing dollar. Incorporating
strategic services (positioning and brand strategy), PR, interactive
graphics, Web site development, and advertising, an IMG can take
a marketing strategy from concept to execution in record time. More
importantly, having each component of the media mix align with and
support the others, builds stronger brands and drives greater ROI.
