**PUB TALK OCTOBER 21: SCOTT ALLAN & ANNE KNIGHT
from @POS.COM
===================================================
**WWW Meets POS (Point of Sale)
"ADS YOU CAN'T IGNORE -- COMING SOON TO A RETAILER NEAR
YOU AND TO YOUR OWN PC"
Scott Allan, Vice President, Product Marketing, @pos.com
Anne Knight, Corporate Communications, @pos.com
It was just a matter of time before someone came up with
a strategy that not only tailors ads to individual consumers
but presents them when consumers are most receptive-in the
store, surrounded by merchandise, and in the very act of making
a purchase. One of the first companies, if no the first, to
do so is the Silicon Valley company @pos.com.
In its pre-Internet incarnation, the company placed its PenWare-brand
point-of-sale transaction terminals on countertops nationwide
at retailers such as Macy's and Bloomingdale's.
But simply capturing customer signatures and reading
credit cards doesn't qualify for .com status. So today
@pos.com is bringing the power of the Internet to the point-of-sale
and revolutionizing retailing with the resultant online-offline
synergy.
Scott Allan, VP Product Marketing and Anne Knight, Corporate
Communications will explain how @pos.com is giving retailers
and advertisers the best lace, and the best time, to
reach consumers with messages targeted to each
Scott Allan, VP Product Marketing and Anne Knight, Corporate
Communications will explain how @pos.com is giving retailers
and advertisers the best place, and the best time, to
reach consumers with messages targeted to each unique consumer.
Through a Web-enabled point-of-sale payment transaction terminal,
customers are served customized ads and promotions as they
complete purchase transactions. There's a business-to-business
play-eReceipts-that gives merchants secure electronic receipt
management capabilities, with secure storage and receipt retrieval
at the @pos.com data center. For consumers, the ReceiptCity.com
portal gives free Web-access to their own receipts, which
they can use to reorder or return merchandise, register warranties
and make warranty claims, and download for business expense
and tax reporting.
Scott Peterson (PC Week) says: "If …enough of
the terminals are deployed, consumers will begin to take them
for granted as part of the on-going "conveniencing"
of shopping such as debit card terminals and cash-back."
